Motte Farrell

A Motte and Bailey castle is a medieval system of defense in which a stone tower on a mound (the Motte) is surrounded by an area of land (the Bailey) encompassed by some barrier, such as a ditch. The hill at Motte Farrell is the remains of the Motte of the original fortification. It is still used for clan ceremonies.
